it’s a nice light snow today. chai green tea and the sounds of sufjan stevens is how we’re spending our saturday afternoon. (our high school graduation photo in the red plaster rose frame coincides with the stuffed dog on the bed that hayes gave me on one of our dates just before we graduated back in 2005.)

At my old high school for the little brothers sports banquet, aww.
Last night at the little brothers soccer game we were sitting next to this group of freshman- 13/14yr old boys. This one scrawny, pale, freckled red head left to use the restroom. He also left his cellphone. So the other boys immediately grabbed it and proceeded to text every female contact he had; they asked out every single girl he knew. When the little one came back he was excited to see he had so many new messages, but then he started yelling for the culprit to come forward when he figured things out. The only thing the group asked him, in between their laughter, was what did the girls say? He handled the situation pretty well. We only know that one girl responded with, “But we don’t even talk.” I was dying. It was a hilarious episode.
it was my baby brothers last home game in high school. the band played as all the seniors presented their parents with bouquets before the game to say, thanks for sticking with me this entire time! it was sweet. and they won.
now we’re freezing at the little brothers soccer game- he’s number three. family support!
it is pretty chilly out here- brother’s soccer game. where else? love my family and i love that we support each other, with whatever our hearts desire.
You guys love soccer.
At the little brothers soccer game, drinking a banana foster hot beverage, trying to keep my mind off truman burbank barking at the little kids soccer practice (he hates them- we dont know anyone with kids, so he doesnt understand what they are), by reminicing about the time i played soccer here. That poorly painted ‘04 on the clubhouse door was my senior year. It was the first time the girls soccer team at this school made it into playoffs, not only that but we were undefeated all season. The championship game came along and we lost 1-0. Who does that? Win every game but the most important one? But really, who cares? It was high school, and my parents forced me to play- it sucked for me that I started every game. This is not an Uncle Rico post, just memories enduced by a barking dog.
I love the giant lights at our hs, when they turn on as the sun goes down and the cold air rolls across the soccer field, it’s a staple of fall.
last night i was the dd, after dropping the drunk kids off on the way home i decided to take the back roads, i had the windows down and there was nothing good on the radio- that same lmfao song was on most of the stations and our local alternative one was playing the foo fighters. so i put on whatever was in the cd player. let me preface by saying i was driving my little brother’s car- the high school senior- well it’s my parents car, so it’s the most recent, most basic honda civic you can get in case one of us crashes it, since it’s for all four of us kids to use and he had most recently been driving it to school. I don’t know, I feel like all high schoolers go through the same music phase (unless they’re of a certain stereotype and listen to the top 20 songs over and over, you know those people)..well my family has different music tastes, but I guess in high school we all shared the same one, because I played the cd and it was a mix of bands like brand new, something corporate, the used and it was amazing- belting out the lyrics, i was transported back to my high school self. the only time i listen to songs like that is when allison, kate or emily post them, which i love! but i don’t go out of my way to listen to them now, i guess now i’ll just save those memory songs for when i’m driving down back roads with the windows down on a warm summer night.
going to the school board meeting of my old high school to support them after they were attacked by a mother at their last meeting who basically said, kids that attend there get a shit education, never amount to anything & the teachers get paid too much.
i had perfect attendance in high school cos i loved going there so much. it was so fun. i found my calling there, i met my husband there, i’m still friends with the teachers there (we go out for drinks) who are not getting paid nearly enough, what teachers are? we have so many more kids graduate, go off to college &/or start their own businesses than those who don’t.
Just because the school has a few bad apples every year, doesn’t mean the entire school system is a failure. So many opportunities are given to us, it’s just about how you make them yours. I can’t wait to show my school spirit- hence the class ring w/our green school color & ram school mascot engraved on the side.
